Temporary Part-time Commercial Sanitation Driver Operator

JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, this position operates front-loader garbage and boom trucks that require a Commercial Drivers license (CDL). Follows set sanitation routes and acts as a lead person to other employees working on the truck. Performs work in a highly structured environment with orderly established procedures and processes. Reports to the Commercial Sanitation Supervisor.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions
- Drives and operates front-load garbage trucks on designated routes.
- Drives and operates knuckle boom loader for the collection and removal of landfill in a safe manner.
- Delivers dumpsters to new customers and replaces old ones.
- Utilizes a variety of tools such as power drills, grease gun, pressure washer and air chucks for maintenance of vehicle.
- Receives and/or reviews information such as call tickets, written/spoken instructions, route schedule, maps and regulations.
- Assembles new dumpsters for delivery, puts together lock bar and fits it to commercial dumpsters.
- Prepares and generates information such as a log of addresses log of maintenance performed on trucks.
- Interacts and communicates with a wide variety of groups and individuals to include the general public, supervisors, fellow employees, office staff and landfill personnel.
- Operates a variety of machinery and/or equipment to include front-load, knuckle boom, flatbed and pickup trucks.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or its equivalent and two (2) years of experience in a job related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Special Qualifications:
Valid Class A or B CDL Drivers License.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledgeable of front-load garbage trucks in the collection and removal of commercial waste with the ability to safely load and dispose of refuse.
- Knowledge of relevant city, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies.
- Knowledge of safety rules and guidelines.
- Knowledge of city geography and roadways.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and the general public.
- Ability to establish priorities with appropriate attention, details, and the ability to think through and analyze a problem resulting in the best possible solution.
- Ability to operate and perform minor repair small/light equipment, such as power tools.
- Ability to operate and perform minor repair medium equipment and machinery, such as vehicles.
- Ability to operate and perform minor repair to heavy or complex machinery such as construction equipment.
