Bus Driver

GENERAL INFORMATION

Title: Bus Driver Department: Transportation Salary Grade: Classified Pay Schedule C/Part-time Position

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Site/Location: Transportation Reports to: Director of Transportation Date: 04/28/2026

POSITION SUMMARY

Safely operate an assigned school bus for transporting students from home to school and/or to and from school-related events.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Cooperates with school officials to provide safe and efficient transportation for students.

Maintains an assigned schedule on a specific route and consults with the supervisor or dispatcher regarding suggested changes.

Maintains acceptable standards of conduct and dress.

Maintains courteous, professional, and effective working relationships with parents, students, school staff, school officials, and all levels of employees.

Works the days and hours necessary to perform all assigned responsibilities and tasks.

Performs related duties as necessary and as assigned by the supervisor for transportation.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Candidate must possess a current Virginia Operator's License/Commercial Drivers License (CDL) properly endorsed to operate a school bus.

The candidate must be eighteen (18) years of age, at the minimum.

High School Diploma or GED preferred.

Previous bus driving experience is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of Lynchburg City streets and laws

None

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Minimal travel within the City of Lynchburg.
