General Description of Duties (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Under the direct supervision of the custodian coordinator and/or principal, the custodian performs general cleaning and maintenance in school buildings and grounds; maintains equipment in functional condition;and provides cleaning and custodial assistance to students, teachers,visitors, and others as necessary. The custodian has the primary responsibility for cleaning the school in such a way to promote health and safety while reducing the spread of infection. It is the role of the custodian to follow daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules including, but not limited to, classrooms, office areas, bathrooms, storage areas, and entrances. The custodian performs related duties as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Function: General Cleaning Duties
Daily cleans offices, classrooms, corridors, stairways, and other areas as assigned:
Sweeps, dry mops, or vacuums
Dusts, waxes, and/or polishes furniture
Empties wastebaskets and other waste receptacles
Polishes door knobs and other metal fixtures
Disinfects and deodorizes as instructed
Daily cleans mirrors, sinks, and water fountains
Dusts ledges and woodwork
Washes walls, windows, and other fixtures in a periodic basis
Scrubs and waxes floors on a periodic basis
Keeps an appropriate stock of cleaning materials and equipment
Reports needed supplies to supervisor in a timely manner
Replaces deodorizers, toilet tissue, hand towels, and soap
Removes stains from surfaces of carpet, flooring, walls
Function: Operation of Cleaning Equipment
Use working knowledge of proper operation of all custodial cleaning equipment to perform duties
Maintains assigned equipment
Reports needed repairs to supervisor in a timely manner
Function: Operation/Driving of Bus Route
Operates school buses safely on designated routes as scheduled or in emergency situations.
Maintains proper licensing and adheres to district transportation policies.
Conducts daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
Maintains safety and order among student passengers.
Function: Operation of Established Safety Rules
Remains thoroughly aware of and follows safety precautions
Reports potential safety and health hazards to appropriate supervisor(s)
Secures the areas of assigned campus(es) upon completion of cleaning duties
Participates in the campus safety protocols and plans
Function: General Working Requirements
Adhere to assigned schedule
Assists other custodians with duties when needed to meet timelines
Completes all assigned duties without instruction and with minimal supervision
Assists with moving furniture, supplies, and/or materials as requested by supervisor(s)
Serves as a contributing team member of the custodial department and assigned school staff
Function: Confidentiality
Maintains confidentiality after observing personal material relating to students and staff
Directs all concerns to immediate supervisor(s)
Function: Physical Effort
Ability to stand for long periods of time
Ability to stoop, squat, lift, carry, push,and climb
Ability to exert up to 60 pounds of force occasionally
Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force frequently
Ability to exert upto10 pounds of force to move objects often and as needed
Function: Other Expectations:
Work for duration of the daily contracted time period
Be physically present and at assigned work location with only infrequent unexcused absences during the contract year
Dress in professional manner in accordance with personnel policy at all times when on duty
Perform described physical activities representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
Stand and walk
Use hands and fingers to handle or feel
Reach with hands and arms
Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
Sit, climb, and balance.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
