TITLE: Bus Driver
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Driver must have and maintain a current CDL license and DOT physical.
- Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama Statutes and State Board of Education regulations.
REPORTS TO: Transportation Director and Administration
SUPERVISES: Students
CONTRACT DAYS: 182 days
SALARY: Salary is based on appropriate step on the approved OCS salary schedule.
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
JOB GOAL: To assist in providing safe and efficient transportation to all Oneonta City Schools students that choose to ride school buses.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Attend school during assigned hours.
- Adhere to school system rules, administration procedures, local board policy, and state and federal rules and regulations.
- Attend faculty and other assigned meetings.
- Participate in the State Board and system required in-service and professional development.
- Assists in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
- Perform reasonable duties necessary for the safe and effective operation of the school.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law.
- Exhibit positive human relations skills and professional ethics.
- Demonstrate proficiency in written and oral communication.
- Demonstrate competency in the use of computers and available technology.
- Contribute to the overall development of an effective school program.
- Transport children to and from school in the mornings and afternoons along assigned routes and when necessary for field trips, technical school, sporting events, and other activities.
- Verify permission for students who ride the bus.
- Maintain a clean and mechanically-sound bus at all times.
- Perform inspections of the bus before and after each route.
- Obey all traffic laws and state/federal transit regulations.
- Ensure safety of all students.
- Discipline children when required to maintain a safe and healthy environment.
- Maintain and submit record of passenger numbers, route details, bus inspection, and other required reports on time and accurately.
- Attend Open House for bus rider registration.
- Keep Transportation Director informed of any delay, accident, or incident.
- Adhere to mandatory drug/alcohol testing.
- Perform other duties as might be reasonably assigned by the Principal or Superintendent or by direction of the Board.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires sufficient physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities.
