Position Overview
The Class B CDL Local Driver oversees the local delivery process. Responsibilities include safely operating commercial vehicles, conducting required inspections, and providing timely delivery. This role integrates with warehouse operations, requiring hands-on support for freight loading, staging, and unloading using equipment such as a manual pallet jack, and direct transfer of goods at the customer destination. Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities Driving & Delivery- Operate a Class B commercial vehicle (e.g., box truck, straight truck) to deliver goods to local customers.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure safety and compliance with DOT regulations.
- Secure loads effectively using straps, bolsters, or locks to prevent damage during transit.
- Maintain accurate electronic logs and delivery documentation (BOLs, invoices, and signatures).
- Assist in loading and unloading trucks using pallet jacks and/or manual lifting.
- Transfer the items from the pallet onto carts for the client and maintain a clean, safe working environment.
- Perform picking and packing duties accurately based on outgoing orders.
- Assist with inbound receiving processes, including unloading and staging incoming freight.
- Conduct quality checks and inspections of goods to ensure quantity and condition match documentation.
- Collaborate with the warehouse team to perform various operational tasks as needed to maintain workflow.
- Facility & Vehicle Maintenance
- Maintain a clean and organized dock area, ensuring it is free of debris and hazards to prioritize safety.
- Responsible for the routine cleaning and interior upkeep of the assigned commercial vehicle to ensure professional standards and cargo safety.
- Provide professional customer service to external and internal partners, including at delivery points, acting as the "face of the company."
- Perform other related job duties as assigned or required.
- A valid Class B CDL Drivers License is required.
- A minimum of 36 months experience working in a full-time Class B driving position in the previous 5 years.
- At least 12 months of full-time Class B vehicle driving experience within the last 3 years.
- No more than two (2) moving violations while operating a personal or commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
- No serious traffic violations or convictions while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
- No clearinghouse violations in the last 5 years.
- Knowledge of all applicable DOT Regulations and Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
- Ability to satisfy FMSCA/DOT requirements including a clean drug and alcohol screen and a passing DOT physical.
- High level of reliability and commitment to the role.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to navigate interactions professionally.
- Must be able to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public and respond to official inquiries to drivers.
- Must meet minimum age and insurability requirements (21 years of age or older) in accordance with company insurance policies and/or federal regulations governing commercial vehicle operation.
- Safely operate a commercial motor vehicle for extended periods
- Climb in and out of trucks, trailers, and loading docks multiple times per shift
- Lift, pull, push, or carry up to 75 pounds as needed for loading/unloading
- Sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed
- Stand and/or walk for extended periods (up to 8 hours, depending on shift)
- Reach with hands and arms overhead and below waist level
- Occasionally lift heavier items with or without assistance
- Maintain manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate vehicle controls
- Enter and exit the vehicles cab multiple times per shift (truck seats are generally 5-6 off the ground; requires climbing 2-3 steps outside the cab and 1 step inside the cab before seating)
- Sit for extended periods while driving (up to 11 hours per day in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations)
- Pass and maintain DOT medical certification, including vision, hearing, and physical fitness standards
- Participate in DOT and Company required alcohol and controlled substance testing program
- Work in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow)
- All types of weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow)
- Varying traffic conditions, road hazards, and driving stressors
- Warehouse and loading dock environments, depending on delivery requirements
- Noise, vibration, and fumes from truck engines and other vehicles
- Dust, odors, and airborne particles
- Occasional work in tight or enclosed spaces, including loading bays or truck cabs
