Job Summary
The Class A CDL Driver is responsible for the safe and timely pickup, loading, transport, and delivery of tires using both route-based collection and drop & hook operations. Routes and assignments are provided by dispatch, and drivers are responsible for managing daily transportation activities, maintaining professionalism at customer locations, and completing all required documentation accurately.
This role may involve working independently or as part of a two-person team (with a Route Helper) and requires strict compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and company safety and operational standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Safely operate a Class A commercial vehicle on assigned routes and between facilities.
- Pick up, transport, and deliver used tires from customer locations to designated facilities or disposal sites.
- Perform drop and hook operations, including exchanging loaded and empty trailers at customer locations, yards, and facilities.
- Work as part of a team with a Route Helper when assigned, assisting with manual loading, stacking, and securing tires.
- Manually handle and stack tires weighing up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Ensure all loads are properly secured and compliant with DOT and company safety requirements.
- Conduct pre-trip, post-trip, and en-route inspections; complete DVIRs and report any maintenance or safety concerns.
- Accurately complete DOT logs, bills of lading, manifests, route sheets, and other required documentation.
- Serve as a professional representative at customer sites, obtaining signatures and maintaining positive relationships.
- Collect payments from cash customers when required, following company procedures.
- Maintain clean, safe, and operational equipment at all times. [
- Navigate routes using GPS, maps, and dispatch instructions, accounting for traffic, weather, and site conditions.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, helpers, and operations regarding route status or issues.
- Assist with yard moves, trailer positioning, and other transportation-related tasks as assigned.
- Follow all safety, environmental, and operational policies.
- Perform additional duties as needed to support tire removal operations.
Skills and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations.
- Ability to safely operate Class A equipment and perform drop and hook operations.
- Strong attention to safety, accuracy, and compliance.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Clear and professional communication with dispatch, customers, and coworkers.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks related to inspections and equipment handling.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum age of 22 years old.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Must meet all FMCSA driver qualification requirements.
- Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record in compliance with DOT standards.
- Minimum of 1 year of commercial driving experience or equivalent Class A CDL driving experience.
- Ability to meet DOT physical, background, and DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements.
- Willingness to maintain a professional appearance and conduct at all customer and tire store locations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience performing manual loading and customerfacing route service.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
This role requires extended periods of driving, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and physical tasks associated with inspections, trailer handling, and waste tire removal operations.
