This position is designed for trainees who will be engaged in the operation of highway construction and maintenance equipment, as well as undertaking various manual labor tasks as part of a highway or bridge maintenance team. As a trainee, you will receive comprehensive training aimed at obtaining the necessary licensing and certification to operate heavy construction machinery, specifically including Heavy Truck/Tandem Axle (HT/TA) vehicles and loaders with a bucket capacity of 4.5 cubic yards or less. Throughout your training, you will be instructed on how to conduct and document essential pre- and post-operation inspections, ensuring that all equipment is safe to use and minimizing wear and tear. Additionally, you will gain hands-on experience in operating a range of hand and foot controls, utilizing safety features such as seat belts, and managing the installation and removal of tire chains on dual wheels, all of which are critical for maintaining operational safety and efficiency on the job.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS
Special Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Drivers License or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learners Permit on the first day of work.
  • Must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of work.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Certain positions require operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
  • This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.

Additional Requirement:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
