Helicopter Pilot Jobs in Illinois
A Helicopter Pilot in the transportation industry is primarily responsible for navigating helicopters to transport passengers, cargo, or other goods. This role may involve performing emergency services, such as medical evacuations, or carrying out routine services, like aerial inspections of infrastructure. Their duties may also include performing routine aircraft inspections, maintaining accurate flight logs, and ensuring that all operations adhere to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations. They need to have excellent communication skills and the ability to make quick decisions in high-pressure situations.
Before becoming a Helicopter Pilot, one might start out in roles such as a Flight Instructor, where they would gain valuable experience teaching others how to fly, or as an Air Traffic Controller, where they would learn crucial skills in managing aircraft during takeoff, flight, and landing. Others may begin as commercial airplane pilots to gain flight hours and experience. The most crucial certification for a Helicopter Pilot is the FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with a helicopter rating. However, other beneficial qualifications may include an Instrument Rating, which allows pilots to fly under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR), and an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate, which is required for pilots who wish to serve as a flight commander or First Officer on an aircraft.
